The letters N.C.C. are most times said to mean
( N )aval ( C )onstruction ( C )ontract and the 1701
being the series number.
But according to one of those "insider" books ( I think it was Rodenberry's biography) the letters came from the license number off of a small airplane owned by the guy who designed and built the Enterprise. Hope this helps!
