I totally agree with you. You can't put an ST movie into 40 minutes, it would bomb worse than First Contact. And still, Paramount would not only be out on a huge moviegoing audience, but also on the entire home video marketing industry on the new movie. So I say keep Star Trek in the theaters with the Dolby Surround sound, that's enough for me.
