I don't know quite how to describe it but, I feel that the new shows (VOY & DS9) are missing something. While the old series may have been cheesy at times the relationship between the 3 main characters was what I felt drove the show. Shatner and crew are not Shakespearean actors but there personalities drove the show. It took STNG 3 or 4 years to even have some sort of semblance to this. God, the first two seasons of STNG were lame overall but it started to grow with the development of Data & Worf. These new series have had their moments but I feel like a Board of Directors is giving proper script ideas. I looked forward to VOY when it started, but have given up on it now. I know this will create the usual stir, but Babylon 5 is so much more fun & interesting. It doesn't wrap a universal problem in the last 10 minutes of every episode and it shows unpleasant sides of characters more often. Now, nothing is like the memories I have of enjoying Star Trek when I was younger. I think that Paramount should give the franchise a rest for a couple of seasons and start fresh. Let's stop having cameos of everyone in each others series. What next, Chekov falls into a time vortex and pops up on Voyager? Maybe Troi can come to his rescue with the help of Q and right everything by the end of the episode? That would drive the ratings. (Soory, got a little too cynical.)
