On the whole I don't think that Roddenberrys dream has been destroyed since his death. VOY at example is also a mixture of different characters as in TOS.

Remember:
Paris is more or less a criminal
Tuvok is a BLACK Vulcan
Chakotay is an Indian
and last but not least
Janeway (the captain) is a woman

Certainly some aspects got lost through the years like the importance of the dialouges (Spock vs. McCoy) or all those little things "between the lines", the sometimes really "bitter-evil humor" and contemporary statements. But in my opinion this is not the fault
of ViaCom or Paramount. I think this is only because of the lack of Roddenberrys personal note.

In regret to ST-TMP:
As far as I know Roddenberry tried to make the film in his own way but most of his ideas or corrections were refused by the director, the producers or sometimes even by the actors. And maybe thats the reason why the film finished in a financial fiasco.
I don't understand why they didn't trust Roddenberry any longer? Who knows - Maybe Roddenberrys ST-TMP would hit the aimes which were given by the studios; if the studios had given him the responsibility for the whole story.

But now to your original request:
In a certain way, Roddenberry was "corrupted" by the ths studios. The first episode "THE CAGE" included a cool and logical femal Number 1 and the Vulcan Spock. NBC which produced ST at this time insisted in cancelling Mr. Spock and the Number 1. Roddenberry decided to renounce of the Number one and to give the traits to the Vulcan. Because of the big troubles he knew that he couldn't save both. This is one of the first influences of a filmstudio; and certainly there are many more.

You can use the whole comment or only parts for your college paper - however you want!

Good Luck
