Brannon Braga once gave a famous interview where he stated point blank that as long as he was in charge, Voyager would be the X-Files of Star Trek.
(Now, I like X-Files, but continuous, it ain't)

Voyager has always been about denying the reality and embracing the adventure.
Lost in Space? All they care about is ratings.
