Although Enterprise-E (E-E) is longer in length (~700m), it has far less number of decks than Enterprise-D (E-D). E-D has 42 decks, but E-E only has 26. In ST:FC, Captain Picard stated that E-E has 24 decks, and a crew said that the Borg has taken decks from 26 to 11. A plausible explanation would be that, among the 26 decks on E-E, 24 decks are habitable.

As the above comparison image shows, E-D has a larger living space for crew. E-D is capable of carrying approximately 1000 people of crew and family members onboard. E-E can probably carry roughly a crew of 400.

It is noticeable that E-E has longer warp engine nacelles. This might help E-E to reach a higher maximum warp speed.
