If Captain Janeway was half the man she sounded like, the Voyager would have been in the Alpha Quadrant a long time ago! : The previous is correct. Subspace signls require booster relays in order to remain coherent, otherwise they breakup and spread out too much. For instance, this distance was a major problem for DS( until a rogue asteroid fell through the wormhole. It had trace amounts of some exotic material that allowed subspace signals to pass along the wormhole. Otherwise ships were incommunicado. : Something I don't understand is why Voyager hasn't sent out log bueys whenever they come across an alpha linked wormhole. All they have to do is encrypt it and put the proper Starfleet seals on it. Anyone who finds it most likely trun it in for a reward. : This was the first thing I thought of when I read False profits. (didn't get to see it) Janeway is such a bonehead. "Catain! The wormhole is breaking up!" "Launch the emergancy log bouey" : It should be standard procedure! She shouldn't even have to say it! : "Mr. Kim! Do something intelligent!"
