"The Federation must be losing the war more than they let on." uttered Lt. Marsh. "What did you just say, Lyle?" asked Ensign Paul Fuentes. "Why else would Starfleet bring this old relic out of mothballs." repied Marsh. "Attention on Deck!" roared the voice over the intercom. Apprehension filled the main shuttlebay as the craft finally finished docking procedure. The senior staff and most of the crew were present for about was to happen. The command staff stood at full attention in their long dress frocks awaiting their unknown fate.... "Capt. Shepard relinquishing command and pledging this crew's loyalty, sir. You should find her as worthy as any in the flee..." "Enough Captain " interupted the reply. "Senior officers front and center1" boomed the voice emerging from the shuttle. The senior officers lined up for inspection at full attention. "About face and look into the faces of this crew...these are the men and women whom you will send into battle and order to sacrifice their lives. The sons, daughters, brothers, sisters, parents, and friends who maybe lost to preserve the freedoms of their loved ones. It is to them you owe your loyalty and lives to above all others. It is to them you must promise to serve faithfully." The figure now addressed the crew "How many of you are willing to die for the preservation of the freedoms and life the Federeation has provided for you?" A hearty shout went up from the crew "I will." Then came the rebuke"Then I have no place for you under my command...because I demand that you live not die for the cause we have undertaken!" thus begins the command of Colonel John Hemingway...a marine colonel brought out of retirement and given command of a starship...something unheard of until now. This is a condensed version of a beginning of a story I ahve begun..what do you think?
