Yeah another explanation may be that in First Contact not only was there a leak but the entire chamber was destroyed. When that happened all of the gasses that make up the coolant were mixed together. My theory is that inside the coolant tank the gasses are actually kept seperate either by the particles themselves or some other kind of technology. Perhaps it is the gasses themselves that bond to Oxygen to create the dangerous mix.
